Identity design & wayfinding for a mountain hotel
Identity design & wayfinding for a mountain hotel
Our design concept was inspired by aesthetics, the special feeling of being in the mountains and the wildlife of the lake near the hotel, namely beavers. The fresh clean air, the tranquillity, the stunning surroundings and the closeness to nature played an important role in the concept and the design, both in terms of feeling and guiding principles. We focused on these elements and kept in mind the characteristic of the local lake fauna.
Clean lines, subtle colours and a focus on harmony suited this project perfectly, as our aim was to reflect the tranquillity of the surroundings and the hotel's 'mascot' character, enhanced with some playfulness and sophisticated taste.
In creating the form, we used the outline of the beaver's tail and its pattern in a stylised way. All this in a perpetual motion, intended to illustrate the natural cycle (spring-summer-autumn-winter and spring again...), including the mountains. As well as the minimalist font chosen to help the symbol form its communication.
The clean signage and unformatted room numbers help guests find their way around the hotel, while the matching icons convey the hotel's personality, as do the menu, drinks list, small and large totems, or the 3-dimensional sculpture that has replaced the hotel's "jewel" on the façade.
